Tailored sequencing of highly brominated Poly(ether ether ketone) as a means to preserve crystallizability and enhance Tg

In this report, the bromination of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) using mild reagent N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) is explored to generate controlled random and blocky microstructures. Bromination proceeded quantitatively in both solution state semicrystalline gel-state, degrees between 25 175 mol% were obtained for BrPEEK. Spectroscopic evidence revealed a higher prevalence unfunctionalized repeat units BrPEEK than at similar functionality. Furthermore, bromination, exhibited enhanced glass transition temperatures, greater crystallizability, melting faster crystallization kinetics BrPEEK, suggesting longer segments PEEK Overall, work demonstrates that can be brominated very high substitution gel-state while preserving crystallizability effectively blocking up
